Care & Maintenance

At BSG, we design our pieces to last. However, the secret to a long-lasting wardrobe lies in how you care for it. Follow these general guidelines to keep your favorite garments looking brand new for years to come.

1. Read the Care Label First

Before doing anything, check the internal care tag. It’s your garment’s personal instruction manual.

  • Machine Wash: Safe for standard washers.
  • Hand Wash: Use a basin with gentle detergent.
  • Dry Clean Only: Take to a professional to avoid shrinking or fiber damage.

2. Washing Best Practices

  • Wash Less: Unless it’s visibly dirty or smells, you don't need to wash after every wear. This preserves the fabric fibers and saves water.
  • Turn Inside Out: This prevents pilling and protects prints, embroidery, or delicate finishes from friction.
  • Cold Water is King: Washing in cold water (30°C or below) prevents shrinking and color fading, and it’s better for the environment.
  • Separate by Color & Weight: Wash whites, lights, and darks separately. Avoid washing heavy items (like towels or jeans) with delicate items (like silk or thin tees).

3. Drying Your Clothes

  • Air Dry Whenever Possible: The high heat of a tumble dryer is the leading cause of garment aging. Lay flat to dry (especially for knits) or hang-dry to maintain shape.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Bright sunlight can act as a natural bleach. Hang colored items in the shade to prevent fading.
  • The "Low Heat" Rule: If you must use a dryer, use the lowest heat setting and remove clothes while they are still slightly damp to reduce static and wrinkles.

4. Ironing & Steaming

  • Steam is Better: A garment steamer is gentler on fabrics than a flat iron and is excellent for removing odors and bacteria.
  • Inside-Out Ironing: If using an iron, turn the garment inside out and use the appropriate heat setting (Silk/Wool/Cotton).

5. Proper Storage

  • Fold Your Sweaters: Never hang heavy knits or sweaters; the weight will cause them to stretch out of shape. Always fold them.
  • Use Quality Hangers: Swap wire hangers for wooden or padded velvet hangers to maintain the shoulder structure of jackets and shirts.
  • Give Them Space: Don’t crowd your closet. Airflow prevents mustiness and reduces the need for ironing.
